New deadline looms for companies filing annual accounts
This Saturday is the first shortened deadline date for companies filing their annual accounts at Companies House.
Filing deadlines for accounting periods beginning on or after 6 April 2008 have been shortened from ten months to nine months for private limited companies. Therefore, limited companies with a 30 April 2009 year end will need to file their accounts by 30 January 2010.
Paul Samrah, a partner at top 20 accountancy firm Kingston Smith LLP, warns: “Penalties for late filing have risen for all company accounts with a year end of 31 March 2008 onwards. The penalties range from £150 for private companies where accounts are filed less than one month overdue to £1,500 for those that are more than six months overdue. Company directors should note their new filing deadline and ensure their company accounts are filed in plenty of time.”
