Pre-Budget Report: Inheritance Tax Nil-Rate Band

Mr Darling announced that the nil-rate band will remain at £325,000 for 2010/11, rather than implement the previously announced increase to £350,000.

Comment: It is disappointing that the Chancellor has reneged on an earlier commitment to increase the nil-rate band. Potentially, this will lead to a real increase in the IHT collected, especially now that property prices have at least stabilised, if not started to show signs of moving upwards.
