Nick Brooks is a partner in our city office and heads up our not for profit sector group. Nick has over 20 years’ experience in providing audit and advisory services to the not for profit sector. He was one of the first group of practitioners to obtain the joint ICAEW and Cass Business School Diploma in Charity Accounting and he has recently been awarded a fellowship by the Institute of Fundraising.

Nick is one of the leading UK advisers concerning audit, accountancy and tax for charities and writes and lectures on a wide range of charity matters. He was Chairman of the Standards Committee of the Institute of Fundraising for the last 15 years, until December 2008, and the Committee’s primary function is to raise and set good standards of charity fundraising throughout the country.

He is a technical screener of accounts entered for the annual Charity Accounts Awards, Treasurer of the Charity Law Association and chairs the Institute of Chartered Accountants’ Charities Technical Committee, where he is currently involved in trying to persuade HMRC to alter the draconian ‘substantial donor’ legislation introduced in the 2006 Finance Act. Nick is a trustee of two charities and therefore understands the issues and practicalities involved in actually running a not for profit organisation.
