New South East Branch Chairman for Association of Women in Property

Heather Powell of Kingston Smith LLP, the top 20 accountancy firm, has been appointed South East Branch Chairman of the Association of Women in Property (WiP) for 2012/2013, taking on the role from March.

Heather, a partner at Kingston Smith, has considerable experience of working with clients in the property sector, ranging from developers to the many businesses who provide services to developers as well as property investors and traders. She has been a member of WiP for three years and has served on the South East committee throughout that time.

Heather comments: “This year, WiP celebrates its 25th Anniversary – the organisation was originally formed back in 1987 as a networking group for professional women because, at that time, there were so few women working in this industry. While much has changed, the fact remains that women still represent only 15% of the property and construction industry workforce, so there is a way to go.”

“The South East branch has an enthusiastic and committed membership who value the benefits brought through our varied professional and social events, the WiP mentoring programme and the guidance available, whatever stage members have reached in their career.

“I would urge any woman working in this or related sectors to give one of our events a try – we all still face a challenging business environment, so never has there been a more important time to get ahead of the game by meeting and mixing with others in the industry.”
