Charity Finance Summit 2018

Start date: October 11, 2018 8.45am - 5.00pm

Incorporating the Charity VAT & Tax, Strategy & Risk and Investment conference streams, the Charity Finance Summit has grown to become the key learning and networking event for charity finance teams in the autumn conference season.

Debbie Jennings, VAT Principal at Kingston Smith will be talking on the following topics.

New HMRC guidance on grants and contracts

Recently HMRC published 26 manuals outlining their latest guidance around VAT on grants and service level agreements, covering topics such as what constitutes a supply, payment from public funds, European grants, and subsidies. Join this session to hear a summary of the key changes, HMRC’s latest interpretation of the relevant case law, and how to apply the guidance to your own tax affairs.

VAT on property developments

Navigating the VAT treatments on property transactions can be a minefield, and no more so than in the construction of new buildings.  The conditions that must be met to secure reliefs are tightly defined and it doesn’t take much to find yourself in dispute with HMRC.  Join this session to hear recent case law around various charitable building projects, and how these decisions translate into practice on the ground. The session will also outline the advantages of using design and build arrangements to achieve maximum VAT savings.
