HMRC Report: “How We Resolve Tax Disputes” – Tim Stovold comments
Following the publication of HMRC’s report on resolving tax disputes, tax partner Tim Stovold comments: “The report makes clear that, in disputes where the taxpayer asks for the case to be reviewed by an independent Inspector of Taxes before heading to the tribunal, HMRC concedes that it has got it wrong in more than a quarter of those cases reviewed. The message here is clear; if people are unhappy with the taxman’s decision don’t assume that he must be right – he quite often isn’t and asking for cases to be reviewed might have a good chance of success.”
