UK Growth Capital Research – January 2016

We are delighted to publish our review of the UK growth capital market in 2015 following our initiation of coverage in July.

As predicted, a record amount was raised in 2015. £1.44 billion was raised by UK SMEs in 360 transactions in total. This is an increase of 24% on the amount raised in 2014.

Overall, on-line and technology dominated more traditional sectors, a reflection of the opportunities being created as a result of rapid rates of innovation, disruption and growth in the digital economy. The biggest sub sector was business-to-business on-line services, making up 17% of the total number of transactions. Also prominent were consumer app/web service providers, technology (including software and digital services), biotech and fintech. Niche manufacturing accounted for significant activity.
